It’s been a month since WHO classified this variant (omicron) as a “variant of concern”.
And they were right, cause since then this variant has been identified in more than 100 countries and it’s spreading really fast.
Omicron is quickly surging to dominance in many parts of the world including United States, United Kingdom, European Union and many more.
Also these are among the very first who imposed a travel ban on the people coming from southern part of Africa.
So considering the situation now that was not a “wise move”, was it EU?
Omicron vs Delta Variant
Early data from South Africa, Denmark and the UK shows a reduced risk of hospitalization for omicron compared to Delta.
However, it is expected that hospitalizations will increase as a result of significant increase in transmission.
So it is important to understand the severity of the situation caused by this variant.
Results of vaccine effectiveness indicate a reduction against omicron infection compared to earlier variants.
But still, unvaccinated people are at higher risk than vaccinated ones.
No one can deny the fact that this virus has caused lives of millions of people across the globe. Still many people are spreading fake news on social media.
The symptoms of this disease might look similar to common cold, but it’s different. So we should all follow covid appropriate behavior and get the booster shot if eligible.
