Krafton has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds PC will be going free to play from 12th of January 2022. The announcement of the game going free to play was done at The Game Awards on 9th December 2021.
A lot of us has been speculating about this for some time because it has been theorized that the $30 price tag could be holding back players from trying out the game.
A lot of people who want to play the game already bought it. Since most people who can afford a gaming PC would also be able to afford buying the game that they want to play.
There are however places in the world where renting a gaming PC is normal and so $30 will seem like a lot despite playing the game on an expensive computer.
PUBG going free to play right now during Christmas and the Christmas holidays would have been much more powerful than doing it after.
Krafton has said that there will be two modes in game from 12th January 2022:-
- Basic
- BATTLEGROUNDS Plus
Krafton has put at $13 price tag on getting access to career features playing ranked matches ,doing custom games.
Players who have already purchased and played PUBG before its transition to free-to-play will get a Special Commemorative Pack that includes a free Battlegrounds Plus account upgrade and special cosmetic items.
The free-to-play version of PUBG will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
You can pre-register for free version by clicking on this link here. Players who pre-registers before January 11 will receive a “special care package” that includes cosmetics and other bonuses.
Krafton has also introduced a new training system that will help new players learn the game. For new players it would be difficult to compete against the players with hundred hours of experience.
Krafton also added many training modes such as spray control for improving skills regarding handling weapons while firing, sound training mode so that players can work on their sound skill i.e., from where shot is being fired etc.
So in a nutshell there is no doubt PUBG PC is gonna gain a lot of new players but on the other hand the risk of having a ton of cheaters flooding the game will also increase when it becomes free. So, What are your thoughts on PUBG being free after approx 5 years from launching. Are you also waiting for PUBG being free? Feel free to share your thoughts below in comments section.
